Whether you’re brand new to screenwriting or have been at it for years, the Screenwriter’s Workshop is designed to meet you exactly where you are. This is a space for curiosity, collaboration, and creative momentum, not perfection. If you’ve ever wanted to understand how stories actually come together, how ideas evolve in a room, or how to trust your voice while sharpening your craft, you’re in the right place.
This workshop offers a behind-the-scenes look at how stories take shape inside a writers’ room. Through guided teaching and collaborative discussion, you’ll explore the building blocks of screenwriting and the psychology behind them. Whether you’re developing a project, strengthening your fundamentals, or simply wanting to think more clearly about story, this workshop emphasizes clarity, connection, and creative momentum without the intimidation.
To preserve a meaningful, interactive experience, attendance is limited. This is an intimate room by design, created so everyone has space to participate, learn, and connect. If you’re ready to get in the room, learn by doing, and be part of a thoughtful creative community, we’d love to have you join us. Check out more information about Marti and the full agenda below!
The Screenwriter
Marti King-Young is a working screenwriter, producer, and director whose career spans film and television at the studio and network level. She is currently assisting Emmy-nominated Executive Producer Ellen Marie Blum on ABC’s hit series Will Trent, and has worked alongside top creatives on projects for Netflix, Hulu/FX, NatGeo, MGM, and Warner Bros., including Sweet Magnolias, Class of ’09, Genius: Aretha, Annabelle Comes Home, and The Conjuring 3.
Beyond the screen, Marti is a globally sought-after screenwriting mentor and educator, known for translating industry realities into practical, no-nonsense craft tools. As a producer’s assistant, she sits in pitch meetings, reads scripts, hears executive conversations firsthand, and understands exactly how stories are evaluated behind closed doors. It’s that access—and perspective—that shapes how she teaches.
Marti is also the award-winning writer, director, and producer of The Adventures of Wonderboy, a film that traveled internationally and earned multiple awards, including two Telly Awards, while championing inclusion and accessibility in filmmaking. Her work and advocacy have been featured internationally, including recognition by Cinewomen for her contributions to women in film and disability inclusion.
A proud member of the Alliance of Women Directors, Marti mentors screenwriters worldwide, including as a longtime mentor at The Good Word Writer’s Retreat in Patmos, Greece. An overwhelming majority of her mentees have gone on to secure representation, place in major competitions, or land fellowships at leading networks and streamers.
At her core, Marti is passionate about helping writers trust their voice, sharpen their craft, and understand how stories actually move through the industry. Her workshops are collaborative, empowering, and rooted in real-world experience—not theory.
We’re hosting this workshop at Content Studios Atlanta, a 6,000+ square foot creative studio in West Midtown designed with flexibility and creators in mind.

The Psychology of Screenwriting
Most screenwriting workshops are filled with "when I was on set" anecdotes that don't help you finish your script. The Psychology of Screenwriting is different.
This practical, no-nonsense workshop is designed to give you a solid foundation to actually build on—whether writing your first pilot or tenth feature.
This isn’t about theory. It’s about writing in a way that aligns with how a reader’s brain actually processes a story. We dive into the mechanics of engagement, showing you how to bypass logic and go straight for the emotional gut punch.
So lean in, and lock in because you’ll learn:
The 268 MPH Script ⚡A reader’s brain moves fast. You’ll learn why passive voice quietly kills momentum and how writing in active voice keeps your script moving at full speed.
Dominant Trait vs. Emotional Wound 🎭Most writers focus on how a character behaves. Marti takes you deeper into why they behave that way, helping you distinguish between surface traits and the emotional wounds that drive powerful character arcs.
The Practical Fixes ✍️Learn to identify the hidden issues that make readers disengage, from clunky dialogue and naked sluglines to passive questions that stall your scenes before they take off.
